Post Florida is the home to all the freaks and morons the world over

I'm not really sure when it started but I think it was before my time. If something weird or stupid or just simply f'd up happens, it happens here. All the time.

Everytime I hear one of those stories I just look at where it happened at it is of course in Florida.

    This is the latest one <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/News/01/16/life.plaque.reut/index.html" target="_blank">Dopey Lauderhill</a>

Here are some of the past Floridiot things. Feel free to add your own:

    1. Jim Morrison gets arrested in Miami for indecency (I think it started with this one.

    2. Kathy Willets

    3. Too Live Crew

    4. Hanging chads

5 Training of terrorist pilots who don't want to land.

    6. Tillie Tutor

    7. Many of the judges that host peoples court type shows

    8. Home of OJ Simpson (moved here because freaks are the majority)

    9. First Anthrax case

    10. Marlins

    11. Panthers

    Please add more.

Being from Boston, my wife and I keep commenting on the FL / MA connection. Terrorist trained in FL. Flew out of Boston. The shoe bomber lands, and is in jail in Boston. John Henry selling the Marlins to buy the Red Sox...

    Red face

Goes back a few years, but

    Open carrying of firearms

My wife always gets a kick on the national news when they mention "Florida" as there always seems to be a connection. Look at Americas Most Wanted show. How many times do they show that map and say the person was spotted in Florida or been there?

Hey, whackos and the like enjoy the tropical climate too

Here's some of my favorites that I tell to students in my Southern Politics class at FIU:

    1. Presidential Election of 1876. Tilden (D) beat Hayes (R) by 94 votes in Florida. The Republicans disputed the results from Dade County, and bribed the state canvassing board with $200,000. Democrats tried a $100,000 bribe. Hayes won.

    2. 1950 Senate race between Claude Pepper and George Smathers. He claims it's not true, but Smathers' stump speeches in small towns in North Florida allegedly called Pepper a "notorious extrovert" and his sister (an actress) a "practicing Thespian." It worked. Smathers carried the Panhandle and won.

    3. Governor The Rev. Sidney J. Catts (elected in 1916) referred to himself as "The Cracker Messiah" and for some reason threatened to shut down all the nunneries in Florida.

    4. Governor Napoleon Bonaparte Broward (early 20th century). The name alone ... only in Florida.

    There are more.

    Kevin.

there's an old saying: "all the nuts roll downhill to Florida" and it's absolutely true.

don't forget the mcduffie riots, and all the other riots that followed

oj simpson lives here now too

versace slaying on his front steps

german tourists getting whacked left and right

sharks feasting on people (notice how the shark attacks happened daily until sept. 11 and then stopped? coincidence? i think not)

    ted bundy

    danny rolling (gainesville killer)

i'm sure i'll think of hundreds more. it's not just florida by the way. california and texas are the other two states where all the freaks go.

Kevin, it should be noted that back then there was no Broward County. Dade County was everything south Palm Beach.
If you ever do a title search on your property in Broward, you will see the Dade County Clerk and seal on the older documents.

Absolutely true. In fact, I believe back in 1876 Dade actually included everything up to Brevard County.

The weirdest thing is during the feeding frenzy, Art Bell said on his radio program "Something big is going to happen, something bad, the sharks know it." Has the FBI tried interrogating any sharks lately?
