    Unhappy Water Bill

Not sure if this thread has been posted before - if so - sorry.
But I was checking my water bill from City of Sunrise and found out that it has increased . I called their customer service and was told that their counsel members voted to increase the service by %40 - kind of outrages, I think.

I haven't received my latest bill but I hope you are talking about the increase that happenned several months ago. It didn't escape the notice of Not Crap. If there is another 40% increase occurring now, I think it will be cheaper to shower with bottled water.

I thought I had a past-due balance on our bill, it's gotten so high. Pushing $250 lately and that's sprinkling one day a week

I got my bill yesterday and nearly had a heart attack. It had doubled. Then I saw that I had forgotten to pay the bill that was due last week. I looked for last month's bill and didn't see it in the pile of bills. I guess it either got lost in the mail or we accidentally tossed it out.

Very interesting..... my wife is very timely when it comes to paying the bills. I opened our water bil just now and it was 325.00 plus. Then I saw a past due for last month. Too coincidential..... they may have missed sending some out.

My water bill quadrupled a couple months ago. I called a plumber to check for leaks, none, called the water companyto inquire, no answers, then along the way remembered my Association had all the easement sidewalks pressure cleaned that same month. Emails and calls to the HOA went ignored. I bet that is what did it as I had no change in usage

If you had no change in usage, I don't see how your bill could quadruple. When Sunrise changed the rates on us the water portion of the bill went up around 50%. It would be interesting to compare the bills from the month before and the month after to see what happened. If you had no change in usage and the bill went most of the way back down the next month, there had to be some error. With no change in usage, you don't have any leaks. The HOA should be using its own water for the easement pressure cleaning and that will be reflected in your HOA dues. If Sunrise doesn't respond to you, I'd send an email to the Utility Directors in both Sunrise and Weston, both mayors and both city managers. If you still get no response, you can always try Help Me Howard. Rember there is a SunSentinel reporter who posts here - he'd always appreciate a scoop on mis-billing by the water company.

Much of my career was spent in pricing and planning for utilities. If you want a professional Not Crap review of your bills, let me know.

Same here, I had a past due out of nowhere a couple months ago.

MAke sure no "known water sources" are running in the house. Then go open the door to your water meter and see if the dial is moving. Ny next door neigbor opened it for some reason (we aboth in the same container) and he saw mine spinning liek crazy. He came and knocked on my door and suggested a toilet might be leaking. They were not, but I found out the issue was the auto-fill sensor for my waterfall was stuck and it was calling for water non-stop.

I was up near the end of Weston Road this afternoon and stopped in the Sunrise fire/police/utility building and paid my water bill. I asked the clerks if there had been a problem getting bills out last month. She said there is frequently a problem with non-delivery of bills in the Weston area. They don't know if it is a problem with their billing programs, their mailing company or with the Post Office.

Guess I should just give up on this - but - I am still upset for the increase.
In two years for Jan 2008 comparing to Jan 2010 .
    Year 2008 - usage = 21 (what ever 21 means)
    Year 2010 - usage = 19 (less usage than in 2008)
The bill in 2008 was $145
The bill in 2010 was $196
THAT IS A 35% INCREASE - even by using less water in 2010 than in 2008.

The service charge stays the same, no matter what the usage, it is always $16.40. Have the Town Foundation cable charges gone up? I hate that it is appended to the water bill, it has nothing to do with it!
