    Default No more red shirts

I went to the plant sale at Searles Nursery this weekend. I wore a red polo shirt as did all of the Searles employees. After the 10th person asked me how to care for a particular plant, I decided to give an answer instead of trying to explain that I did not work there. If you bought a plant and the "salesperson" told you it grew best placed in front of the TV set, watered once a week with a bottle of Miller Lite and fed monthly with a pound of limburger cheese, I'd recommend getting a second opinion.

I finally learned to stop wearing the red polo when I go to Target and the old CompUSA store. Since Searles is open to the public only twice a year, its a little harder to remember not to wear the red shirt.

I simply wear a Harley Davidson shirt everywhere I go. No one asks me anything.

The other day I needed to run to my office. My wife said to me "I hope you're going to change that shirt before going to the office". I knew I had a Harley shirt on but when I looked down on the front it had their motto of "SCREW IT, LET"S RIDE". I went and changed it....

Back when I used to wear a suit and tie to work, I had a pink oxford shirt that I wore ocassionally with a blue suit. One day I walked by a restaurant with an outdoor seating area in Washington DC and a lady sitting there who was known to be not quite all there started yelling at me -- "You're Robert Redford, you're Robert Redford, only Robert Redford would wear a pink shirt!!!!" Everyone there had a good laugh.

As I passed the registers I realized she'd asked me those questions because she thought I was coming in to work, because I was wearing the employee colors: Navy top and tan slacks! I got a real chuckle out of it.

Not a week later, I run into the local Target and son-of-a-gun if I'm not wearing THEIR uniform: red top and tan slacks! Matter of fact, as I walked out of their restroom, one of the cashiers starts chuckling and says " did you notice you're dressed like us?'

Now, when I wear my favorite tan slacks, I stick to teal, fuschia, black tops....anything but navy or red - just in case I'm going to be popping into Walmart or Target! Good grief!
